Quoted on Bitcoin use in Africa

Mark Grabowski was recently quoted in a tech bog on how Bitcoin fits into the African fintech ecosystem.

"Africa is rarely mentioned when discussing Bitcoin, but it is the next frontier for massive adoption," he told Paxful.  "Hundreds of millions of Africans lack adequate access to banking services. Many of those who do have access actively shun banks on the grounds of distrust. Meanwhile, several African currencies suffer from excessive inflation. And African governments are only loosely regulating cryptocurrency, if at all. All this combines to make Africa primed for massive Bitcoin adoption. Bitcoin could not only provide banking access to those with internet access yet no banking facilities, but also provide an alternative to the traditional fiat pushed by their often-corrupt national governments in favor of something that’s deflationary by design and resistant to corruption."

Grabowski teaches a course on "Bitcoin and Blockchain" at Adelphi University and in June published a new book on the topic, Cryptocurrencies: A Primer on Digital Money.
